The Wake Forest Parent's Guide to Summer Camps (2026)

March 1, 2026Updated Mar 1511 min read

Registration season is here. Here's how to find the right camp and not lose your spot.

Summer camp in Wake Forest isn't just childcare. It's how your kid spends 10 weeks of their year. The right camp builds confidence, friendships, and skills. The wrong one? That's a $300 week of "I don't want to go."

We've researched 80+ camps near Wake Forest, from $50/week town programs to $700 tennis intensives, so you can compare them all in one place instead of drowning in tabs and Facebook threads.

Below is our take on what's worth knowing, organized by what your kid actually wants to do this summer.

The Best Budget-Friendly Options

If you're filling 8 to 10 weeks of summer, cost matters. These are the best values near Wake Forest:

Town of Wake Forest: Camp Nahele & Summer Camps (ages 6 to 11) The town's camps through Parks, Rec & Cultural Resources are the most affordable option in Wake Forest, but most weeks are already full for 2026. Registration opened in February and filled quickly. You can check for waitlist openings on RecDesk, but don't count on it.

For next year: Town camp registration typically opens in February, with residents getting early access. Set a reminder for January 2027 and register the day it opens. These are the first camps to fill every year.

Town of Rolesville Day Camps (ages 6 to 11) $105/week for residents, $125 non-residents. 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM. That's a full workday covered for the price of a nice dinner out. Register here.

Xplore at Hope Lutheran (Wake Forest, ages 5 to 11) Full day (8 AM to 5 PM) for $220/week, or half day for $150/week. Before and after care available for $25/week each. One of the best deals for a full-coverage camp in Wake Forest proper. Details

Separation Team Basketball Camp (Raleigh, ages 5 to 14) $60/day or $260/week, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. If your kid loves basketball, this is a steal for a full-day sports camp. Details

How to Choose (Without Overthinking It)

  1. Start with your schedule. Which weeks do you need covered? Full day or half day?
  2. Match the kid, not the parent. Your kid who hates sitting still doesn't need art camp. Your quiet reader doesn't need ninja warrior training.
  3. Budget for the whole summer. Town programs ($50 to $125/week) are great base layers. Sprinkle in a specialty camp or two ($250 to $450/week) for variety.
  4. Register NOW. Popular camps sell out by March and April. If you're reading this and haven't signed up, check waitlists.
  5. Ask about lunch. Most camps don't include meals. That's 10 weeks of packed lunches.
  6. Plan for heat. NC summers are brutal. Good camps have shade, water breaks, and indoor backup plans.
